MEMBERS’ RECEPTION AT THE BEATRIX FARRAND GARDEN

July 22, 2024

Hudson River Heritage held a reception for our members and their guests on Sunday, June 9, 2024 in Hyde Park at the Beatrix Farrand Garden at Bellefield. This delightful afternoon was generously facilitated by longtime HRH member and supporter Bob Ouimette, who serves on the board of the Beatrix Farrand Garden Association. The guest speaker for the event was Karen Waltuch, horticulturist for the Beatrix Farrand Garden Association, who gave a fascinating presentation about the historic walled garden designed by Ms. Farrand around 1912, as well as the history of Bellefied and the Thomas Newbold family who resided there during that time. After passing down through the family, Bellefield was donated to the National Park Service in 1975 as part of the Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site. Attendees at the event enjoyed wine, cheese and fruit on a beautiful summer day at this mostly unknown local treasure. Please add this garden to your list of things to do locally, especially in the Spring and Fall when the blooming is at its peak!
