BEATRIX FARRAND LECTURE AT WALLACE CENTER

June 27, 2025

Hudson River Heritage and the Beatrix Farrand Garden Association hosted an event at the Wallace Center at the FDR Library on June 1, 2025. The sold-out lecture was given by Jonathan Kavalier, Director of Gardens and Grounds at Dumbarton Oaks in Washington, D.C. Mr. Kavalier spoke about the historic gardens at Dumbarton Oaks, considered Beatrix Farrand’s greatest garden design. Mr. Kavalier was informative and spoke not only about this particular garden, but also about the critical ideas of conservation while maintaining the spirit of the original design of any historic garden, and the many resources needed to assure sustainability.
